An increase in grizzly bear activity has prompted the Tsilhqot’in Nation and province to jointly close a road near Chilko Lake.
Access to Chilko-Newton Airport Road south of Henry’s Crossing, will be cut off during salmon spawning season in an effort to reduce bear-human interactions.
According to the province, public access to the Upper Chilko Corridor will be restricted between September and the end of October, as they work on a management plan for the area.
They say the closure was necessitated by a recent increase interactions between humans and grizzly bears near the Upper Chilko River.
