It was announced earlier today by the United Steelworkers Union Local 1944, who represent Telus’s call centre workers and technicians, that those workers have voted 97 percent in favor of going on strike.
Telus and the union have been negotiating a new contract since October of last year and the workers have not been under contract since December 31st of last year.
The Union’s president, Donna Hokiro, went on to state that Telus needs to start hearing the union and that they are not going to accept another round of concessions, especially when Telus has been pulling in large profits recently.
Around 225,000 workers across Canada are represented by the USW, including about 7,000 Telus employees.
