BC is investing up to $15.6 million into the Residential Tenancy Branch over the next 3 years, to help improve their dispute resolution process.
That investment marks a 40 percent increase in the Branch’s budget, allowing them to increase overall staffing by the same percentage.
As many as 50 new full-time employees will be added specifically to the Compliance and Enforcement Unit, doubling their previous total.
Introduced in 2019, the CEU is tasked with ensuring both landlords and tenants follow BC’s residential tenancy laws.
With the increased staffing, the province hopes to reduce resolution wait times, allow a larger caseload, and strengthen the CEU’s ability to respond and investigate.
In addition, the funding will allow the Branch to continue to revitalize the resolution process, and make it easier to navigate.
