Local government leaders from across northern and central B.C. will gather in Prince Rupert from May 12 to 15 for the 2025 North Central Local Government Association (NCLGA) Annual General Meeting. Delegates will represent over 42 local and First Nations governments, from 100 Mile House to the Yukon and Haida Gwaii to Alberta.
The event will feature keynote speaker Janet Austin, former Lieutenant Governor of B.C., and include plenary panels on topics like Indigenous title agreements, housing, climate adaptation, and legislative reform. City staff will also present on the successful redevelopment of Watson Island, offering insights for other communities facing similar industrial transitions.
A Healthy Communities Forum will focus on healthcare recruitment and retention, with discussions on how municipalities can play a role. Concurrent panels will explore issues such as firefighting capacity, mental health in leadership, AI in local governance, and the state of B.C.’s healthcare system.
The conference, co-hosted by Prince Rupert and Port Edward, will take place at the North Coast Hall Meeting and Event Centre. Organizers highlight the event as a platform for networking, collaboration, and economic benefit for the region.
