Emergency officials have cancelled the tsunami advisory issued Tuesday night for coastal British Columbia, following a major offshore earthquake near Kamchatka, Russia.
As of early Wednesday morning, no tsunami risk remains for any of B.C.’s coastal zones, including northern communities such as Prince Rupert, Gingolx, Kitimat, and Gitxaala. The National Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that all alerts have been lifted, and the Province is now standing down its emergency operations centres.
Throughout the advisory period, community response was swift and coordinated. Local governments and First Nations—including the Gitlaxdax Nisga’a Terrace Society, Gitxaala Nation, and Gingolx Village Government—shared timely updates and safety messaging with residents. No evacuations or damages were reported.
This marks the final update for this event. While no immediate threat remains, emergency officials continue to encourage the public to remain prepared for future incidents by following official sources like EmergencyInfoBC and local emergency pages.
To stay ready, residents are reminded to have emergency plans in place and to sign up for regional alert systems where available.
