September 1st, 2025 marks sixty-one years since the disappearance of Eunice Esther Bird, a case that continues to weigh heavily on her family and community.
Eunice, known affectionately as Snooksie, was just sixteen years old when she vanished in Prince Rupert on September 1, 1964. She was last seen getting into a yellow sports car. Her family remembers she had asked her grandmother for her last paycheque from the Cassiar Cannery shortly before she disappeared. Friends later said she might have been hitchhiking toward Quesnel to visit a boyfriend, but his name was never confirmed.
When her parents reported her missing, RCMP at the time dismissed the case, calling her a runaway. This forced her family to search on their own, travelling across B.C. for years and following up on rumours and unconfirmed sightings. Despite their efforts, Eunice was never found.
Her siblings recall her as kind, happy, and protective of her younger brothers and sisters. Today, they continue to share her story to keep her memory alive and in hopes of finally finding answers.
