Prince Rupert hosted a high-level visit yesterday as BC’s Finance Minister Brenda Bailey and North Coast MLA Tamara Davidson toured the city alongside Mayor Herb Pond and representatives from the Port of Prince Rupert.
The visit focused on both the challenges and opportunities facing the North Coast as the Province prepares its 2026 budget. Officials showcased key infrastructure needs—including water treatment, housing, and transportation improvements—while also highlighting Prince Rupert’s significant growth potential.
With critical decisions on healthcare, education, infrastructure, and municipal funding still ahead, city leaders used the visit to advocate for increased provincial investment in the region.
Mayor Pond said the visit built on discussions held at the recent Union of BC Municipalities Conference, giving provincial leaders a firsthand look at the community’s priorities and long-term economic potential.
The City of Prince Rupert expressed appreciation for the Ministers’ time and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to support sustainable development in the region.
The 2026 BC budget is expected to be finalized early next year.
