Prime Minister Mark Carney has concluded his visit to Singapore, reaffirming Canada’s commitment to expanding trade and investment partnerships across the Indo-Pacific.
During meetings with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, the two leaders discussed advancing cooperation in trade, energy, defence, and technology. They also reviewed progress toward finalizing a Canada–ASEAN free trade agreement in 2026 — a deal expected to open major new markets for Canadian businesses and workers.
Singapore is Canada’s largest source of foreign direct investment from Southeast Asia, contributing $7.8 billion in 2024. The Prime Minister met with senior business leaders and toured the facilities of PSA International, one of the world’s busiest ports, to explore ways to expand Canada’s export capacity.
Carney said Canada’s government is focused on strengthening economic resilience and doubling non-U.S. exports over the next decade. The visit marks his first official trip to the Indo-Pacific as Prime Minister and coincides with 60 years of Canada–Singapore diplomatic relations.
