The BC River forecast centre has upgraded a flood watch for the Bulkley River and tributaries around Smithers and Houston.
A High Streamflow Advisory issued yesterday is covering the entire Nechako, and Bulkley River streams around Smithers and Houston.
And for the Central Coast including, Bella Coola River and surrounding tributaries.
One is also in place for the Omineca region, including streams from Mackenzie to Prince George.
Rivers have been rising in response to hot temperatures and snowmelt. Several rivers at Water Survey of Canada real-time monitoring locations are currently flowing near or above a mean
annual peak flow level 2-year flow
The BC River forecast centre also said that the Rises in rivers throughout the region are forecast to reach the 2-year to 5-year flow, or higher, through today and tomorrow.
A High Streamflow Advisory means that river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, but that no major flooding is expected. Fast-flowing bodies of water increase risk to life safety. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
A Flood Watch means that river levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bankfull. Flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers may occur
