Workers at Trigon Pacific Terminals at the Port of Prince Rupert are on to day six of their strike, with no end in sight, employees went on strike as of noon on Friday October 2nd.
International Longshore and Warehouse Union members, who represent most of the Terminal’s 150 employees, walked off the job on Monday, with 107 of them being unionized.
Pay and a potential AI take over of port jobs are key concerns for the union in the dispute.
But Trigon says they aren’t bargaining in good faith and has filed a complaint with the labour board.
Trigon has also said that they remain available to meet with the Union to negotiate a renewal collective agreement.
They say they’ve mobilized a contingency plan to keep operations flowing, but aren’t specifying details or where the workers are coming from.
Meanwhile, the ILWU continues to challenge the Federal Government’s proposed Bill C-39.
They say a portion of it allows the labour minister to unilaterally enact back-to-work legislation and is a threat to workers’ rights to strike.
