Results are in for Saturday’s municipal elections and things are standing pat at the top for the northwest’s three biggest communities.
In Terrace, incumbent Sean Bujtas took about 63 percent of ballots to secure his second term as mayor, but another name appeared on more ballots.
James Cordeiro popped up on two thirds to nab his fifth term on council, alongside Joe Lavoie, Chris Apps, Nikki Villeneuve, Jesse Olynik, and Keenan Stella.
Phil Germuth will serve his fourth term as Kitimat mayor after narrowly beating out Terry Marleau by just 5 percent of the vote.
He’ll be joined on council by Michelle Martins, Ankur Patel, Louise Avery, Gerry Leibel, Graham Pitzel and Mario Feldhoff, who will serve his seventh term.
Herb Pond was acclaimed as mayor in Prince Rupert.
Barry Cunningham, James Warburton, Jessica Sallenback, Nick Adey, Wade Neish, and Teri Foster will fill out council.
In total, just 27 percent of eligible voters across all three cast a ballot.
Believe it or not, that’s actually a slight rise over the past two elections.
Regional Districts also held their elections on Saturday, although we already knew three winners for the Kitimat-Stikine.
Electoral Area B’s Cyra Yunkws, Area D’s David Brocklebank, and Area F’s Tina Etzertza were all acclaimed unopposed.
Paul Harrison has beat out incumbent Bruce Bidgood to represent Area C, and Ted Ramsey and Eric Nyce will return for Area’s E and and A, respectively.
Only about 16 percent of voters in the Regional District filled out a ballot this cycle.
