From housing to groceries to gas, life in the northwest has become more unaffordable than ever as we head into this weekend’s snap election.
Incumbent Skeena MLA Claire Rattee believes the first step to fixing that is attracting more investment and developers to bring more jobs to the region.
Her Conservatives are also promising a $1,000 tax cut, which she says is fulfilling an NDP promise of a grocery rebate that hasn’t been delivered.
But Sarah Zimmerman’s NDP have committed to capping essential grocery prices.
They’re also promising to continue the freeze on auto insurance rates, and reduce taxes on gas and raise them for the rich.
Nick Gottlieb’s Greens are also planning a wealth tax, but on sitting wealth, for those with hundreds of millions in assets, rather than on income.
They’d also look to put in rent protections and vacancy control to get rent costs down, especially for seniors.
OneBC’s Larry Taylor wants to incentivize local farms and food producers to get grocery costs down, and repair the roads to reduce shipping costs.
We’ll be hitting the polls on Saturday to pick one to be our next MLA.
