Renowned Indigenous scholar, and long-time University of Northern BC professor, Doctor Margo Greenwood has been named Canada’s next Senator.
Dr Greenwood, who is of Cree ancestry, has been internationally recognized for her contributions to health research over the past 30 years.
Last year, she was named an Officer of the Order of Canada as a result of her extensive career in Indigenous health and early childhood education.
In 1997, Dr Greenwood moved to northern BC and began working with UNBC, where she now serves as a professor of education.
She also teaches First Nations Studies, and serves as Academic Leader for the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health.
Recommended by the Senate’s Independent Advisory Board, Dr Greenwood will fill a previously vacant seat, with no party affiliation.
