In honour of International Women’s Day, the province is introducing new legislation to help close the gender pay gap.
If passed, the legislation will require employers to include wage or salary information in all public job postings, beginning in November.
But, it would also gradually require employers to publicly report on their gender wage gap, beginning with the biggest businesses.
Under the legislation, the BC Public Service Agency and Crown corporations with more than 1,000 employees would need to begin issuing reports this November.
All other employers with more than 1,000 workers would be required to begin reporting next November.
Those with 300 or more would need to begin reporting in 2025, and those with 50 or more in 2026.
Other new legislation will see BC become the first province to remove gender binary language from provincial laws.
Doing so will allow everyone to access the programs and services which apply to them.
