Premier David Eby has unveiled his new plan to reduce housing costs for those hit hardest by the on-going affordability crisis.
Titled Homes for People, the plan aims to speed up the delivery of new homes while increasing the supply of middle-income housing.
Under the plan, the Province will work with municipalities to eliminate restrictive zoning to deliver more affordable small-scale multi-unit housing.
Eby says that that means the introduction of new laws and standards to add more town homes, duplexes, triplexes, and even quadplexes.
Forgiveable loans will also be offered to homeowners to build secondary suites to be rented out at below market value.
Other measures include: an anti-flipping tax, a $400 tax credit for renters, and a modernized permitting process to speed up approvals and reduce costs.
Through the plan, Eby hopes to build a housing market that puts people ahead of profits.
