Northern Health and the First Nations Health Authority are warning the public about a toxic drug circulating in Dawson Creek. A green substance sold as “down” has caused several overdoses in the area, some requiring immediate naloxone intervention and hospitalization. Health authorities caution that the substance is dangerous, particularly when inhaled.
Residents are urged to be cautious and take preventive measures, including carrying naloxone and never using drugs alone. If users must use substances by themselves, apps like Lifeguard or BeSafe can help keep them safe by alerting others if an overdose occurs. Additionally, it’s recommended to start with a small dose, especially for those who have had a period of reduced use. For added safety, people are encouraged to visit the local Overdose Prevention Site at 1001 110th Ave, which is open daily from 10 AM to 10 PM. The toxic drug alert will remain in effect until July 3, 2025.
