AltaGas and Royal Vopak have reached a positive Final Investment Decision on the Optimization One expansion of the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility, or REEF. The $110 million project will boost Phase One throughput capacity by up to 25,000 barrels per day and is expected to enter service in the second half of 2027.
REEF’s strategic location on Ridley Island offers a 10-day shipping route to Asia, efficient rail connections, and an ice-free harbor, helping Canada deliver cleaner energy products to high-demand markets. Optimization One strengthens the terminal’s open-access capabilities, supporting the country’s growing energy export role.
The partners are also advancing engineering, permitting, and stakeholder engagement for Optimization Two, which, if approved, could add an additional 60,000 barrels per day of throughput. Together, these expansions demonstrate AltaGas and Vopak’s commitment to expanding Canada’s energy export capacity and reinforcing the nation’s position as a reliable global energy supplier.
