The Prince Rupert Gymnastics Association has received new equipment to enhance programming for gymnasts of all ages and skill levels, thanks to ongoing support from the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s Community Investment Fund. This is the fourth collaboration between the organizations, bringing PRPA’s total contributions to $225,000.
The new equipment includes a vaulting table, springboard, pommel horse for the boys’ competitive program, bars and beam for the girls’ competitive program, and mats for all activities. These upgrades enable the association to expand both recreational and competitive gymnastics offerings, including programs with local daycare providers and school groups.
Since its founding in 2014, the non-profit association has grown to 290 members and a 12,000-square-foot facility, offering classes six days a week. Programs support athletes with disabilities, children in care, and a competitive team of 30 youth who compete regionally and provincially. With the new equipment, the association can also host special events and competitions involving gymnasts from across BC.
PRPA’s Community Investment Fund has a long history of supporting youth sports and recreation in northwest BC, helping organizations like Prince Rupert Youth Soccer Association, local curling and golf clubs, and cycling and skiing groups. This latest contribution strengthens gymnastics programming and ensures more young people in Prince Rupert can participate in safe, high-quality indoor sports activities.
