Due to a prolonged power outage affecting parts of their community, Kitsumkalum First Nation has made the decision to open up their emergency warming centre at the Kitsumkalum Community Hall.
Those in need of a warm place while the power is out can head to the Community Hall on 1 W Kalum Road.
BC Hydro crews have been on scene trying to repair several downed wires in Kitsumkalum since around 1:30 today, with the exact restoration time not yet known.
In the meantime, the Nation has been doing what it can in partnership with the Kitsumkalum Health Centre and its public works department to connect with it’s vulnerable members in need of further support.
The Nation has asked that you reach out directly to the Health Centre at 250-635-6172 if you have questions or concerns about a vulnerable member of the community, or Liam Nutma, the Nations Chief Emergency Program Coordinator, for questions and concerns about snow clearing or the power outage itself.
