Staffing Challenges have interrupted Emergency Department Services at Nats’oojeh Hospital in Fort St. James and the Northern Haida Gwaii Hospital in Masset.
The interruption in Fort St. James began at 4:00 p.m. today, and Northern Health says it will last until 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, Saturday, March 21st. In Masset, the interruption is set to begin tomorrow morning, Saturday March 21st, at 7:00 a.m. and last until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23rd, affecting residents from Masset, Old Massett, Tow Hill and Port Clements.
While the Emergency Departments are unavailable Northern Health says 9-1-1 services are still available in Fort St. James. Those in need of emergency care for a life-threatening issue should not hesitate to call, as transport to the nearest available facility is still available. For those on Haida Gwaii, you would call BC Emergency Health Services directly at 1-800-461-9911.
Those with access to a primary care provider should reach out to them during the interruption for non-urgent needs, while those without can access the Virtual Primary & Community Care Clinic at 1-844-645-7811 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.
Healthlink BC is also available around the clock for health advice, and the First Nation Doctor of the day program is available daily from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at 1-855-344-3800.
