A major flaring event is currently underway at the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat.
The company had sent out a notice around 11:30 A.M today saying flaring at the facility this time around could create a flame reaching as high as 90 meters, which is just shy of 300 feet. It’s expected to last for a least 12 hours, and possibly as long as 24.

This is a planned flare, but as per a directive issued by the Provincial Energy Regulator this month, if black smoke is present, LNG Canada must submit a report to the province about it within 48 hours.
The last time a flare of this size took place was last fall, with the glow it produced visible from as far away as Terrace at higher elevations.
