The Terrace Downtown Improvement Area has received provincial funding to help position Terrace as Northwest BC’s regional service and logistics hub, and attract new business investment to the community.
TDIA president Joseph Lavoie says the money will support a professional investment attraction plan meant to tell Terrace’s story to outside investors.
“This funding helps Terrace tell a story to investors, showing we’re the natural service and logistics hub for Northwest BC,” Lavoie said, adding it allows the community to attract business proactively instead of waiting for it to come.
Lavoie says Terrace has several advantages working in its favour, including its location at the crossroads of Highway 16, rail lines, the regional airport and an inland port. He also points to a skilled local workforce and plenty of room for growth.
He says Terrace’s position in the middle of the region, without being tied to one single industry, makes it well suited to benefit from major projects happening throughout Northwest BC, even those based in other communities.
The plan is also meant to boost downtown Terrace specifically, drawing new jobs, services and activity to the area. Lavoie calls downtowns the heart of a healthy community.
“There is no better time to be a part of the story,” Lavoie said. “Terrace is ready and open for business.”
The funding comes through the province’s REDIP program, part of its Look West strategy. TDIA, a volunteer-run organization, currently has grants open for local landscaping, marketing and downtown events.
