The federal Indian hospitals settlement will be hosting free one-on-one claimant support sessions.
It will be taking place at the Lax Kw’alaams recreation center elders lodge.
Sessions will take place on Thursday October 15th and Friday October 16th.
Claims helpers will be available to to explain eligibility, answer questions about the Claims Process, and assist with completing Claims. One-on-one support will be offered in English.
Attendees can learn about available resources, and receive help with their Claims at their own pace.
Wellness and cultural supports will also be available on-site. Members of surrounding communities are welcome.

If someone cannot attend the Lax Kw’alaams Session, Claims Helpers will also visit Prince Rupert from October 17 to 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Federal Indian Hospitals Settlement provides compensation to eligible Primary Class Members who experienced psychological, verbal, physical, and/or sexual abuse while admitted to a Federal Indian Hospital during the time it was operated by the Government of Canada.
Compensation ranges from $10,000 to $200,000, depending on the severity of the abuse experienced.
The Settlement does not include Claims related to medical treatment or malpractice.
