Coast Mountain College says two of their students passed away after a weekend crash near Meziadin.
On Sunday October 4th Stewart RCMP were alerted to a motor vehicle incident where a vehicle with four occupants had entered a lake near the Meziadin Campground.
RCMP say two people were able to exit the vehicle and call for help after the crash.
Officers later located the driver and another passenger deceased at the scene.
RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service attended the scene to assist investigators and Highway 37 was closed to traffic for several hours while the investigation was underway.
The vehicle was recovered from the lake later that same morning.
Classes at the school were cancelled on Monday and Tuesday out of respect for the students and their classmates
Grief counsellors have also been made available for students this week.
“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of those affected by this tragedy. RCMP Victim Services staff will be working with the families to provide supports as needed,” – Corporal Jennifer Cooper, BCRCMP Spokesperson for Northern B.C.
The college is sending their condolences, and working on an official response, but will not be speaking on it further until October 15th.
