With the strike at Prince Rupert’s Trigon Pacific Terminals now into its second month, the BC Federation of Labour is stepping in.
They’ve taken the extraordinary step of issuing a hot edict on products moving through the terminal.
It effectively asks other unions not to handle their coal, petcoke, and liquid petroleum gas products.
It follows the Industrial Labour Board’s ruling last week ordering Trigon to stop using contract workers on tasks normally done by unionized ones.
Roughly two thirds of the Terminal’s employees are represented by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.
They’ve been on strike since October 2nd.
Both the Union and Federation have accused Trigon of “using every trick in the book to avoid fair bargaining”.
